The Department of Neurology will initiate clinical and laboratory research areas of concentration of the Flexible Neurology Residency beginning in the academic year 2007-2008. It is anticipated that residents will apply for the Flexible Neurology Residency in their R2 or R3 year of training. This year we have had 3 residents in the Flexible Neurology Residency completing a 6 month research block. The descriptions of the laboratory and clinical research areas of concentration, along with what is required to enter and successfully complete each experience, is provided in the links to the left. Resident continuity clinics continue during the research months, but there will be no on-call or other clinical responsibilities. The research time replaces an individual resident’s residency elective time. Eligible residents should indicate their interest to, Dr. Engstrom, Dr. Pleasure, Dr. Johnston or Carol Piunti by October 2008 for the next academic year. Resident projects will be evaluated and selected by a committee in February 2009.
Potential clinical areas of concentration will be developed for the 2008-2009 academic year. Residents interested in becoming clinician-teachers or pursuing global health options will be encouraged to participate in interdepartmental programs that have been developed at UCSF over several years.
