First, the good news.
Rental prices in San Francisco have cooled considerably since the height the
tech bubble. The bad news is that we are still trailing only NYC in residental
rental prices. Fortunately, there are nice affordable places to be found, if you
know where to look. Many residents travel to SF in late fall to find a place and
sign a lease. It is less commonly done via phone and fax, which takes bravery
for both tenant and landlord.
The BEST place to begin your search for housing is Craigslist. You
can try Apartmentsearch.com or Rent.com or a small apartment broker, but the
odds are good that you will find your new place on Craigslist.
UCSF Campus Life Services has a Housing
Office with a list of rentals available to students as well as information
on resident housing at the Mission Bay campus.
